In this day and age, it's impossible to discipline your kids. Not impossible but, parents are so afraid to upset them due to all the laws on discipline, and the threat that their kid could call the police or tell someone that they are being abused or whatever.
My kids are now all adults and they are polite. Far from perfect and I have had my share of headaches. from smoking pot, drinking, car accidents (one with drinking). etc. BUT......my kids are NEVER rude. They know the line of respect with other people. they admit to their mistakes and pay for them. I never beat my kids, 4 kids and I think there may have been a total of 6 spankings on the butt, and those were incidents that could have killed them, like running out in front of a car or ok the time when one of my kids threatened to call cps cuz i wouldn't let her go to some party age 13 and she got brave and called me a bitch. and that was up side the head, once. It never happened again. My point is they all do stuff, yours mine, but are held accountable for their actions.
Most of my conversations included the consequences of not following the rules. AND never being rude to other adults. My kids were also raised to have opinions. They didn't have to agree with me, and were allowed to tell me why but were also taught to respect me and my rules.
My kids are hard working, fun adults who treat other people with respect. they say please and thank you, open doors for people and I made a ton of mistakes.
These kids come into the ed and they are just assholes and the parents let them. I hear them call their parents names, tell them to shut up etc. and these are kids from approx 8 and up. the younger ones are allowed to do anything they want.
I understand you kid is hurt or sick, but never should behave that way.
some big things, like the 16 y/o that took daddy's restored 1967 mustang out for a joy ride and hit a tree. No remorse, 'Oh well he'll get over it'
The worst are the drunk kids who come in spitting and cussing until mom shows up then start crying and saying someone did this to them, and the parents fucking believe it. I tell these parents they should take pics of the tubes, catheters etc. cuz when they wake up there is no memory and they brag to their friends how easy that was.
My oldest daughter was carried home one night puking on her new shoes that she had saved for. i covered her bed in plastic and she layed in it all night. she peed the bed, puked and ruined her shoes. oh well, it was the only time this happened.
one time this mom and her 4 y/o were waiting for a doctor and i asked her to put a gown on the kid. she looked at the kid and the kid said no. the mom turned to me and said ''he doesn't want to change his clothes'' i told her that she came to us for treatment and the doctors want everyone in a gown. she says it's ok he doesn't want to....wtf----I asked her who was the parent and if she had a problem taking the clothes off she could step out and i would be happy to remove them. NO. I told her to buck up and be the aprent and the doctor would see them as soon as the kid is in a gown and not before. 2 hours later she talked the kid out of the clothes at the cost of a trip to toys r us and mcdonalds and some special park.
she is gonna have some serious problems later. it just astounds me.
Parents need to man up and take care of things, you don't have to beat your kids, but make them responsible for their actions. teach them things like please and thank you etc.

THIS HAS CIRCULATED BEFORE.
If you have a bag from McDonalds in your hand, don’t even tell me you have abd pain, I will say something.
Unless you’re an iv drug user or a bilateral amputee with a shunt, please do not pick your iv site.I will miss. And go where I want to anyway.
Or tell me ‘they always use baby needles on me’’ you put out the challenge, I choose a larger needle.
If your yelling at me about the wait and reading a magazine, it’s not the worst migraine you’ve ever had.
Do not order up your amount of narcotics when you get to the door. Ae: I usually get 4 mg dialudid etc.
If you thought you’d get seen faster in the ed when you already have a clinic appointment in 20 minutes. Ill send you to clinic anyway and you will miss your appointment and have to wait in the drop in area.
I don’t care if your uncle, cousin, neighbor, ar anyone else is a doctor. ‘’and they said…..’’ they don’t work here.
‘’my doctor sent me here’’ means he’s missing american idol and has to get home, he’s dumping you.
Please cover your mouth when you cough. If I get sick, you wait longer.
1. The world of ER does not revolve around you. There are sick people here, and you aren't one of them.
2. Our definition of sick is not your definition of sick. If a member of the ER staff says that someone is sick, it means that they are in the process of DYING. They have had a massive stroke, are bleeding out, having a heart attack, or shot. We don't consider a tooth injury sick. Painful, yes. Sick, no.
2. At any given time, one nurse has four patients. One doctor has up to 15. There is a law (similar to Murphy's) in the ER. If you have four patients: One of them will be sick (see #2 for definition) One of them will be whining constantly One of them will be homeless and one of them will be the delightful patient. Don't be the whiner. Please.
3. Physicians and nurses are not waiters. We are not customer service representatives. This is not McDonalds, and you very well may NOT have it your way. Our job is to save your life, or at least make you feel better. If you want a pillow, two blankets, the lights dimmed, and the TV on channel 14, go to the Ramada. EVERY PT WANTS A GLASS OF WATER , SOME CRACKERS AND TO GO PEE, IMMEDIATLY
4. If you have one of the three, go to your own doctor in the morning: A cold The flu A stomach virus
5. If your child has a fever, you had better give him tylenol before coming in. Do NOT let the fever remain high just so I will believe the child has a fever. Do you want your child to have a seizure? Do you?
6. We have priorities. We understand that you have been waiting for two hours in the waiting room. If you don't want to wait, make an appointment with a doctor. The little old lady that just walked in looking OK to you is probably having a massive heart attack. That's why she goes first.
7. Do not ask us how long it will be. We don't know. I don't know what's coming through my door 30 seconds from now... so I surely don't know when you'll be getting a room upstairs.
8. We are not for primary care. Get a family doctor, and go see them.
9. If you have diabetes and do not control it, you are committing slow suicide.
10. We know how many times you've been to an ER. We can usually tell if you are faking it on the first 5 seconds of talking to you. Do not lie to us. If you lie about one thing, we will assume you are lying about everything. You don't want that.
11. If you are well enough to complain about the wait, you are well enough to go home.
12. If your mother is a patient and we ask her a question, let her answer it.
13. If you see someone pushing a big cart down the hall at full speed and you hear bells going off.... do not ask for a cup of coffee. Someone is dying, you inconsiderate %#@^. In the ER, bells don't ring for nothing. Sit down, shut up, and let us work.
14. If you have any sort of stomach pain and you ask for something to eat, you are not that sick.
15. If you can complain about the blood pressure cuff being too tight, or the IV needle hurting, you are not in that much pain.
16. If you want to get something, be nice. I will go out of my way to tick off rude people.
17. Do not talk badly about the other members of staff I work with. The doctor that you hate? I work with him every day, and I know that he knows what he is doing. I trust him a lot more than I trust you. I am not here to be your friend, and neither is he. I will tell him what you said, and we will laugh about it. If you want a buddy, go somewhere else.
18. Every time I ask you a question, I learn more about what is wrong with you. I don't care if I ask you what day it is four different times. Each time I ask, it is for a reason. Just answer the questions, regardless of if you have answered them before.
19. Do not utter the words "It's in my chart." I don't have your chart, and I don't have the time to call and get it. Just tell me.
20. Do not bring your entire posse with you. One person at the bedside is all you need. It is really difficult to get around seven people in the event that you are really sick.
THESE THINGS MAKE ME RUDE, REALLY, IM A NICE PERSON.

NOT SO RUDE FEW DAYS OFF.
So sorry nothing rude to tell you. I have had a few days off from work and have spent them with my family.
my daughter was recently married and is in possession of the most beautiful grandson in the world. (at least for me). My in-laws have flown in from holland to see the baby.
In short, i don't know what is going on at work, cuz I have been very happy hanging out with my adult children and my grandson, that I call Bean, that's what he looked like. A little bean.
but not to be boring, i will end this with one of my er stories.
WHICH ORAFICE???
My claim to fame is foley catheters , there isn’t one I can’t get, (except that transgender, where the fuck was it???) I have many tricks and tips for the really difficult ones.. One evening, a really old woman needed a foley and I was called to help a new nurse. Keep in mind the area of concern was approx the size of a quarter. It’s a non violated area for about 60+ years. So I do this blind foley where I insert my sterile finger into the vagina and the tip of my finger sits on the opening of the urethra, then I slide the catheter down my finger , drop my finger and the catheter slides right in, I’ve done this many times with great success.
On this occasion, I’m in teaching mode and the new nurse is hanging on every word, while my finger is in her vagina, the pt coughed, unknown to me, my finger had come out and gone back in (very small area) as im talking and sliding the catheter down my finger, something wasn’t working, then the pt coughed again and her ‘vagina’ grabbed my finger, we both went down for a closer look, the new nurse is looking at me with expectation and I whisper ‘ oh my god, I’m in her butt’’ we both had to leave the room and laugh.. We did go back and the new foley went in as originally planned. Needless to say, I don’t talk too much about the butt foley, not my most shining moment. BUTT--funny as hell.
