RUDE DOCTORS

So.....for anyone who actually works in an er, you know how the doctor thing works. We ''live'' with them. They don't just pop in from time to time, they have to interact with us for entire shifts.

At our place, we love our docs. Of course there are times when we disagree or there is a personality clash, or they bark a little about why something isn't done, but for the most part we all get along, we go to some of the same parties, or breakfast/drink after a shift. We tell them the same jokes, they become our primary care mds because we trust them.

There is another group of md's that come in to consult pts. They are from all services, cardiology, ortho etc. the most prominent are the HBS (hospital based doctors) they do most of the admitting. the er docs do not admit at our place, if they determine someone needs to stay in the hospital, they call HBS for consult.

Well. they absolutely think their shit doesn't stink. there is a small group that knows how we work and work WITH us instead of AGAINST us.

Some of these guys and or ladies are full on assholes. they really think that we are there to serve them. we do let them know we have other pts and will get to it as soon as we can. They order stuff that could be done when the pt gets upstairs to the floors. But then they would have to go up and follow the pt. and we do get things done faster in the er. But they clog our already busy system.

The funny thing is, if they were nice about it, we would be happy to do it. Some of the newer nurses jump when they bark, I fix that real quick.

And some of the docs are just stupid, you wonder how they made it thru medical school. Some truly think their shit doesn't stink. For example:
one of the stupid ones----she writes her floor orders and doesn't 'stamp' (put the pts name on them) and just puts the orders in the pts chart. How the fuck do we know that's the right pt. I found out my unit assistant was stamping them.. A non medical person was taking the responsibility that the orders actually belong to the pt that the orders are sitting on.
So, I stopped the md one day and asked her to stamp her orders. she went ballistic. I explained that by stamping them that she is assuring that the right pt, right orders etc. that they really belong together. It will eliminate errors and the idea that my UA doesn't have to go to court because the pt got the wrong med or test. she argued for approx 5 min, then said ''you guys are wasting my time, I am not a secretary'' so I ask her, ''What makes you think your time is more valuable than ours, and if you had just done it, no time would have been wasted''

Anyway, this is an easy one. we try to do everything we can for the pt. but sometimes you have to stop and stand up for yourself or your crew.

I tend to get in trouble a lot.

but fuck them, we have to work together.

I hate rude docs.
