STUPID DOCTORS

OK, I may be rude sometimes, but some doctors are not only rude but downright idiots.

We have this one doc that is ok, sometimes fun, kind of a dork, you know he got beat up on his way home from school as a kid and his backpack thrown into a tree or dumpster, etc.

BUT, usually his 1st two days and his last two days of work ( he does a 2 week run then is off 2 weeks) he is a dick. condescending, speaks really slow to you and enunciates his words. you just want to slap the shit out of him. I tend to answer him the same way he talks to me, no matter which voice he is using. He gets confused tho and I think he really doesn't get it.

Anyway, last evening he is on one of his last 2 shifts (becomes stupid and rude), Oh and he also has this problem with the nurses starting care. In his first 2 shifts it is 'you know this is an emergency why didn't someone do this or that'' In his last 2 shifts, he likes to change whatever you did and question why you did it and order the opposite of what you did.

Well we are not a trauma center, I tell people all the time if you get hit by a car, go to -------, If you are having a heart attack, come to us.

So last night this guy walks in post welding next to a gas can (Darwin!) and guess what? It explodes. face looks like a really bad sunburn with pretty much all the hair missing from the inside of his nose, eyebrows etc, he now has what looks like male pattern baldness.

But both arms and hands all the way to the pits and circumfrential, are missing most of the skin, actually the skin was there just hanging in strips.

Well, maybe im old school, but i was taught to cover with sterile wet gauze. the pt was screaming to pour the water because it helped. so we gauzed him and poured normal saline on the gauze while waiting for the doc. Yes the pt was laying in a pool of water, which I already had the techs ready to clean up. This dipshit doc (see above) comes in and says stop your doing it wrong and walks out. so i follow. He tells me that is not how we do it. and i tell him I have been here longer than he has and we have always done the gauze water thing. (if he had gotten there first it would have been fine) no, no, no, he wants us to remove everything and place vaseline gauze with kerlex on the arms, I am fine with this if this has been proven more effective. but fuck you for embarrassing my nurses in front of the pt and his family. To which I told him as such. and getting the pain medication out of him was torture also. he only orders 1 mg of dilaudid. (because I asked him for 2mg) He gives the seekers more than that. burns fucking hurt. Migraines get 4 mg IM. etc. dickhead. so he orders it as 1mg q 10min, prn pain greater than 5----WTF---he has never order meds that way ever.

Anyway.....we take all the saline gauze off and gently wrap him in vaseline gauze with kerlex. and pull out 4 mg of dilaudid, so we are ready for the 10 fucking min.

In the meantime the doc is talking to the burn unit we are transfering him to. rule of nines he was around a 20 and in our hospital anything over 10% goes to a burn unit. Well they tell him what they want and he doesn't tell us. When my nurse calls to give report to receiving hospital, they tell my nurse that they want standing order for meds durning transfer (OK) AND SALINE SOAKED GAUZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!So now we unwrap him again and put the saline gauze back on. all the while looking like idiots to the family. I don't usually do this but totally threw that doc under the bus with the family. They told him later how stupid it was to put that man thru that, and that maybe he should have listened to the nurses.


I went back to the nurses station and told him what kind of dickhead he was and to NEVER put me in that position again. the wrote up the unusual occurance form.

We normally stick together and if an md makes a poor decision, we come up with excuses for familoy, hey we all make mistakes.

No apology to us, no hey I was wrong. FUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
